Tyler Dawson - Assistant Coach

Tyler Dawson is gearing up for his third full season as an assistant coach with the University of St. Thomas men’s basketball staff. Over the past two seasons, the team has achieved an impressive 34-7 overall record, securing the 2021 SCAC Conference Tournament Championship and the 2022-23 SCAC Regular Season Championship. Tyler’s primary responsibilities encompass team offense/defense, player recruitment, opponent scouting, and basketball operations.

Before his coaching role at the University of St. Thomas, Tyler earned his Bachelor’s in Kinesiology & Health from the University of Texas-Austin, where he also served as a student manager for the men’s basketball team for one season. He furthered his academic journey by graduating from the University of Pittsburgh with a Masters in Finance.

As a player, Tyler boasts a stellar resume, having been a three-year starter, two-time all-district guard, and a 1,200-point scorer at Oak Ridge High School. Beyond his coaching commitments at UST, Tyler actively contributes to the basketball community by coaching and assisting in the management of Backcourt Hoops, an AAU program in The Woodlands, Texas.
